Evidence of the Dart

Evidence of the Dart is a series of photographs captured during a pilgrimage along the shore of the River Dart in Dartington, England. Plant matter and detritus are paired together to investigate human presence in the landscape. Presented in plastic bags, resembling evidence from a crime scene, these objects become ephemera representing a specific time and place. The river bed itself, just out of frame in each image, welcomes a contemplative stroll along its shifting shoreline – and a quiet reminder of the ephemerality and interconnectedness of the natural environment. This work represents my desire to hold onto the knowable, and delight in the multiplicity of narratives, that the indexical nature of photographs provide.

Evidence of the Dart, a 49-piece series, was created as part of The Ephemeral River – Global Nomadic Art Project sponsored by the Center for Contemporary Art and The Natural World (CCANW), Science Walden / UNIST, YATOO and the Korean Cultural Centre UK.
